TaylorMade Introduces R9 SuperDeep TP

A Pure Player's Driver Descended from the Legendary 300 Tour and R510 TP

R9 SuperDeep TPCARLSBAD, Calif. (May 19, 2010) – TaylorMade, the No. 1 driver brand in golf, proudly introduces the R9™ SuperDeep TP, a pure player's driver descended from the 300 Tour and R510 TP, both legendary among tour pros and highly skilled players.

The R9 SuperDeep TP driver is engineered to promote a mid launch-angle and low spin-rate for strong swingers who tend to launch the ball too high and with too much spin with other drivers. The ultra-deep clubface (2.55 inches tall) is the deepest of any TaylorMade driver ever, and the head height is equal to the USGA limit (2.8 inches). The head is also more compact from heel to toe than other drivers like R9 SuperTri and Burner® SuperFast. This gives R9 SuperDeep TP a lower MOI which, combined with its forward CG location makes it more workable for players who like to shape their tee shots.

Its combination of Flight Control Technology (FCT) and Movable Weight Technology™ gives you a choice of 448 possible launch condition combinations. R9 SuperDeep TP comes equipped with Aldila's new R.I.P. graphite shaft with Reverse Interlaminar Placement technology, which delivers low torque while promoting increased hoop strength and increased tip stability.

Appearance-wise, R9 SuperDeep features an all-black finish, including the clubface, and includes TaylorMade's famous TP logo on the toe, and comes with an all-black headcover with magnetic closure.

"This driver isn't for everybody," said Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade senior director of metalwood development. "It was created for the select few who generate a rare combination of high clubhead speed, high clubhead control and high smash factor. If you're that player, this is the driver you've been waiting for."

The R9 SuperDeep TP driver is available in three right-handed lofts (8.5, 9.5, and 10.5) and one left-handed loft (9.5). Three R.I.P. shaft flexes – R (60 grams), S (70 grams), X (70 grams). It includes a TP case with an R9 torque wrench (to adjust the FCT position and remove and install MWT® weights) and eight MWT weights: 1-gram, 4-gram, 6-gram, 8-gram, 10-gram, 12-gram, 14-gram and 16-gram. Availability starts on May 15, 2010 at a street price of $599.

TaylorMade Introduces Burner® SuperFast TP

Sleek Black Finish and Tour Preferred Face Alignment Combined with Burner SuperFast’s Aerodynamic Head

Burner SuperFast TPCARLSBAD, Calif. (May 18, 2010) – TaylorMade Golf is launching a TP version of its popular Burner SuperFast driver. Available to tour pros since March, the Burner SuperFast TP has been put in play by Retief Goosen, Y.E. Yang, Rory Sabbatini, Mike Weir, Pat Perez, Jason Day, Fred Funk, Justin Rose and Vaughn Taylor. Yang used it in April to win the Volvo China Open on the European Tour.

"The players who have put Burner SuperFast TP in play have done so mostly because they're getting more ball speed and distance with it," said Keith Sbarbaro, TaylorMade's vice president of tour operations. "The aerodynamics of the head promote more clubhead speed, and the big face and high MOI allow them to go after the ball more. Vaughn Taylor has never been considered a long hitter. A player came to our tour trailer and asked for a Burner SuperFast TP because he couldn't believe how far Vaughn was hitting it past him in a practice round."

The Burner SuperFast TP features a fast, aerodynamic head shape, expansive clubface and slightly open clubface alignment. The inner side of the clubface incorporates TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone Technology, which promotes faster ball speed on off-center hits. The Burner SuperFast TP driver also incorporates TaylorMade's proven Dual-Crown technology, which both lowers and pulls back the center of gravity to promote a higher launch angle and less spin. Introduced in the TaylorMade Tour Burner driver two years ago, and also used in the Burner 09, Dual Crown technology is tremendously valuable. The Burner SuperFast TP driver is finished entirely in black, including the sole and clubface, and features a tour-inspired crown graphic and the famous TP logo on the toe.

New Matrix Shaft Configuration Promotes Piercing Ball Flight

Also critical to the Burner SuperFast TP driver's performance are its new Matrix shaft configurations, which promote a piercing, Tour-like ball flight and a stable feel. The Matrix HD6 (65 grams) shaft is in the S and X flexes, while the Matrix XCON 5 (54 grams) is the standard R-flex shaft. At 46.0" in length, Burner SuperFast automatically promotes a wide swing arc to promote increased clubhead speed. Available in three right-handed lofts (8.5, 9.5, 10.5) and one left-handed (9.5). Availability begins on May 15, 2010 at a street price of $299.

Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge, Reynolds PlantationGreensboro, Ga. (April 27, 2010) - Florida State University head coach Jimbo Fisher and former Noles defensive back Terrell Buckley combined to shoot a seven-under-par 65 to win the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament Tuesday at the Reynolds Plantation resort outside Atlanta.

Buckley holed a 15-foot, right-breaking putt for birdie on 18 to move to -7 and hold off a charging Georgia Tech team down the stretch. The Yellow Jackets finished one back at -6, and two-time defending champion South Carolina finished third at -5.

"We regrouped on the back nine and strung together a few birdies," FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Then we made that big putt on 18. It was very competitive out there and just a super event."

"It's a lot of fun when you get a chance to get out on the course and compete," Buckley added. "You want to test your game and we certainly did that today."

The Seminole team took home $120,000 in scholarship donations for FSU in their winning effort. In total, the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge contributed $400,000 in scholarship money to the 12 universities that competed. Over the last four years, the event has combined to give more than $1.8 million in scholarship and charitable donations.

"We really had a spectacular day on the golf course today and this incredible group of coaches and celebrities represented their universities in a first-class way," said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. "But the privilege was all ours in being able to give so much back to these great schools and great competitors."

"This was tremendous," Fisher said, "giving back to kids, giving scholarships and helping further their education, that's what we're all in this for. This has really been first-class and we thank the Chick-fil-A Bowl for having us."

The Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge featured pairings that included a university head coach and a celebrity or former athlete from the same school competing in a scramble format against other university teams from the ACC and SEC.

Oklahoma State Wins Linger Longer InvitationalGreensboro, Ga. (March 30, 2010) - The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State men's golf team lived up to its billing, as did Alabama sophomore Bud Cauley, as they captured the team and individual titles of the 5th annual Linger Longer Invitational at The Landing at Reynolds Plantation.

Cauley, who opened the 54-hole tournament with an electrifying 8-under-par 64, finished just as strong, playing the final five holes 3-under, including a key eagle on the par-5 14th hole, for a 67.  That gave the all-American from Jacksonville, Fla., a total of 204, a career-low for 54 holes and a six-shot victory.

Oklahoma State teammates Kevin Tway, a junior from Edmond, Okla., and Sean Einhaus, a freshman from Germany, were second and third, respectively, at 210 and 214.  Tway also closed with a 67.

"When he is on - and he was at this tournament - he is really hard to beat," Alabama coach Jay Seawell said of Cauley, who went 3-0-1 last summer in the Walker Cup and in the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship knocked off Ricky Fowler, who at the time ranked No. 1 in the amateur world rankings.   "He came out and almost put it away on the first day," Seawell said, "and then, as always, he finished strong."

Leading by three shots going into the final round, Cauley saw Tway (in the group ahead of him) play the first six holes 6-under to pull within two shots.  Later, again up by three with five holes to play, Cauley's eagle on the 14th put him back up by five, as he wrapped up his third collegiate win and the second this spring.  Cauley also climbed to No. 2 in the national rankings, behind Georgia's Russell Henley, who finished tied for 10th.

Like Cauley, the Cowboys led from wire-to-wire, holding off a final-round charge by Alabama to win by only two strokes overall, with a total of 865 (best 4 of 5 scoring).  As the Crimson Tide shot 283, 5-under-par for the final round, Oklahoma State closed with a solid, 2-under-par 286.  Texas A&M placed third at 874, with Georgia Tech and defending champion Georgia tied for fourth at 879.

Co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer University, the Linger Longer Invitational featured six of the nation's top-25 ranked teams competing over three days on the first golf course built on Georgia's Lake Oconee.  The Bob Cupp design, a par 72 set up to 7,005 yards for the tournament, played to a scoring average of 76.19 for 54 holes.

RENOVATED GREAT WATERS COURSE RETURNS BETTER THAN EVER

Share on Twitter Twitter | Share on Facebook Facebook | Submit to Digg digg it |  Add to delicious  delicious |  Submit to StumbleUpon StumbleUpon |  Share on LinkedIn LinkedIn | Submit to Reddit reddit
Greensboro, Ga. (March 4, 2010) - Under the direction of the architectural staff from Nicklaus Design, the first substantial renovation project on the award-winning Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation is complete. The result is a version that is better than ever and again ready for play this spring.   Great Waters, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course that opened in 1992, is a dramatic layout that offers some of the most breathtaking golf scenery in the southeast. Consistently ranked among the Top 100 courses in the nation since it opened in 1992, Great Waters  earned the distinction from Links Magazine as one of the "10 most significant and influential courses of the past two decades."   To ensure Great Waters remains just as significant during the next two decades, Reynolds Plantation implemented a restoration plan for the greens and bunkering that has restored them to the shapes and sizes of Nicklaus' original specifications.   Greenside bunkers have been slightly tweaked throughout the golf course, to incorporate new drainage and reinforce the faces. The modifications have not impacted the integrity of the design; rather, they enhance shot values.   The major alteration is the complete turf changeover on all 18 greens, from the original Penncross Bentgrass to Miniverde Bermudagrass, a unique variety that was not yet developed when Great Waters was built. The new product is a superior putting surface that will remain more consistent, year round.   "Great Waters' reputation as a world-class golf experience plays a significant role in the Reynolds Plantation golf community," said Mercer Reynolds, Chairman of Reynolds Plantation. "The course is credited for putting Reynolds Plantation on the map. It has a great history, and the renovation assures the golf course maintains its level of excellence in the future."

Reynolds Plantation members will get the first look at the revitalized Great Waters layout starting March 15, with guest play to resume April 1. Nicklaus is schedule to make a personal inspection of the finished product and serve as special guest for a dedication ceremony on April 6.

The second golf course built at Reynolds Plantation, Great Waters is the only Nicklaus course on Lake Oconee. With nine holes lining the lake shores, Great Waters quickly gained a reputation for its scenic beauty, as well.

While the architectural staff from Nicklaus Design was assigned to the job from the outset, much of the Great Waters renovation project was carried out by the Reynolds golf course maintenance crew. Each phase was coordinated to maintain the design and strategic objectives Nicklaus intended in 1992. Original plans and drawings were referenced throughout the project, particularly to locate the original edges of the greens in order to return them to the exact same size they were on the day it opened.   As for the greenside bunkers, most of the changes won't be visible to the golfer's eye, since they involve modernization of drainage and irrigation systems underground. To prevent erosion on the faces of the bunkers, the new ones have grass growing lower down the sides, making the slopes slightly less dramatic, but the obstacle no less hazardous.   "By having Jack Nicklaus' name on Great Waters, we are responsible for part of his legacy," said Bob Mauragas, vice-president of golf operations at Reynolds Plantation. "By completing a project like this, it is satisfying for all of us at Reynolds Plantation to know we are being good caretakers of that legacy."

About Reynolds Plantation Named the "Best of the Best" Golf Community by Robb Report and the community with the "Best Golf" in America by the editors of GOLF Magazine, Reynolds Plantation, located between Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia, is situated along 374 miles of shoreline on Lake Oconee. Reynolds Plantation features 117 holes of championship golf from designers Bob Cupp, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Rees Jones and Jim Engh. Reynolds Plantation is also home to The Reynolds Golf Academy, as well as the exclusive TaylorMade Kingdom.  The community offers members a variety of dining options, swimming pools, pedestrian trails, four full-service marinas and The Lake Club Wellness Campus with its award-winning Tennis Center.  Reynolds Plantation is also home to The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a 251-room lakefront resort and spa ranked No. 5 in the "Top 100 Golf Resorts" worldwide by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine.  For more information or real estate inquiries, call 800-800-5250 or visit http://www.reynoldsplantation.com/.

Greensboro, Ga. (February 16, 2010) - Six of the top 25 college golf teams in the nation, led by No. 1-ranked Oklaho ma State University, return to The Landing at Reynolds Plantation for the fifth annual Linger Longer Invitational, March 26-28.

One of the premier spring tournaments of the collegiate season, the Linger Longer Invitational features 16 teams competing for 54 holes in both team and individual stroke-play format on the award-winning Landing layout which will play to 7,051 yards (par 72) and was designed by golf course architect Bob Cupp.

Hosted by Mercer University and Kennesaw State University, the Linger Longer Invitational is a showcase for teams from coast to coast, with the University of Georgia returning to defend a championship it has won three times (2006, 2007, 2009).

"We continue to enjoy the participation of a great field every year, on a golf course that is in great shape and provides an ideal test," said Coach Andrew Tredway of Mercer University, which finished a solid fourth last year.  "The support of the participating coaches, their schools and Reynolds Plantation is outstanding."

Last year the top-ranked Bulldogs captured a showdown of No. 1 vs. No. 2 by finishing two strokes ahead Oklahoma State, with a winning total of 867, only 3 over par.  Individually, OSU's Trent Whitekiller, then a junior, earned his first career victory by only one shot, finishing at 208, 8 under par.

This year, joining Golfweek magazine's top-ranked Cowboys and No. 21-ranked Bulldogs as leading contenders are No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 12 Alabama and No. 22 Georgia Tech.  The field is rounded out by Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Louisville, Oklahoma, San Jose State, South Alabama and South Carolina-Aiken.

Since its inception, the Linger Longer Invitational has been played on courses that are part of the Reynolds Plantation collection - The Oconee Course the first two years, and The Landing the past two.

Individually, the tournament will showcase a field full of all-Americans, with nine of the Top 20 players in the 2010 season rankings scheduled to compete, including No. 1 Peter Uihlein, an Oklahoma State sophomore from Orlando, Fla.; No. 2 Bud Cauley, an Alabama sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., No. 3 Russell Henley, a Georgia juni0r from Macon; No. 5 Hunter Hamrick, an Alabama sophomore from Montgomery; and No. 6 Morgan Hoffman, an Oklahoma State sophomore from Wyckoff, N.J.

The first golf course built on popular Lake Oconee in 1986, The Landing features a Scottish-style variety of holes that wind through naturally wooded areas and rolling hills, with three holes that wrap dramatically along the lakeshore.

Spectators are welcome to walk the course with the teams.  Admission to the Invitational is free.
