Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge, Reynolds PlantationGreensboro, Ga. (April 27, 2010) - Florida State University head coach Jimbo Fisher and former Noles defensive back Terrell Buckley combined to shoot a seven-under-par 65 to win the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament Tuesday at the Reynolds Plantation resort outside Atlanta.

Buckley holed a 15-foot, right-breaking putt for birdie on 18 to move to -7 and hold off a charging Georgia Tech team down the stretch. The Yellow Jackets finished one back at -6, and two-time defending champion South Carolina finished third at -5.

"We regrouped on the back nine and strung together a few birdies," FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Then we made that big putt on 18. It was very competitive out there and just a super event."

"It's a lot of fun when you get a chance to get out on the course and compete," Buckley added. "You want to test your game and we certainly did that today."

The Seminole team took home $120,000 in scholarship donations for FSU in their winning effort. In total, the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge contributed $400,000 in scholarship money to the 12 universities that competed. Over the last four years, the event has combined to give more than $1.8 million in scholarship and charitable donations.

"We really had a spectacular day on the golf course today and this incredible group of coaches and celebrities represented their universities in a first-class way," said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. "But the privilege was all ours in being able to give so much back to these great schools and great competitors."

"This was tremendous," Fisher said, "giving back to kids, giving scholarships and helping further their education, that's what we're all in this for. This has really been first-class and we thank the Chick-fil-A Bowl for having us."

The Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge featured pairings that included a university head coach and a celebrity or former athlete from the same school competing in a scramble format against other university teams from the ACC and SEC.

Linger Longer Invitational

Oklahoma State Wins Linger Longer InvitationalGreensboro, Ga. (March 30, 2010) - The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State men's golf team lived up to its billing, as did Alabama sophomore Bud Cauley, as they captured the team and individual titles of the 5th annual Linger Longer Invitational at The Landing at Reynolds Plantation.

Cauley, who opened the 54-hole tournament with an electrifying 8-under-par 64, finished just as strong, playing the final five holes 3-under, including a key eagle on the par-5 14th hole, for a 67.  That gave the all-American from Jacksonville, Fla., a total of 204, a career-low for 54 holes and a six-shot victory.

Oklahoma State teammates Kevin Tway, a junior from Edmond, Okla., and Sean Einhaus, a freshman from Germany, were second and third, respectively, at 210 and 214.  Tway also closed with a 67.

"When he is on - and he was at this tournament - he is really hard to beat," Alabama coach Jay Seawell said of Cauley, who went 3-0-1 last summer in the Walker Cup and in the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship knocked off Ricky Fowler, who at the time ranked No. 1 in the amateur world rankings.   "He came out and almost put it away on the first day," Seawell said, "and then, as always, he finished strong."

Leading by three shots going into the final round, Cauley saw Tway (in the group ahead of him) play the first six holes 6-under to pull within two shots.  Later, again up by three with five holes to play, Cauley's eagle on the 14th put him back up by five, as he wrapped up his third collegiate win and the second this spring.  Cauley also climbed to No. 2 in the national rankings, behind Georgia's Russell Henley, who finished tied for 10th.

Like Cauley, the Cowboys led from wire-to-wire, holding off a final-round charge by Alabama to win by only two strokes overall, with a total of 865 (best 4 of 5 scoring).  As the Crimson Tide shot 283, 5-under-par for the final round, Oklahoma State closed with a solid, 2-under-par 286.  Texas A&M placed third at 874, with Georgia Tech and defending champion Georgia tied for fourth at 879.

Co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer University, the Linger Longer Invitational featured six of the nation's top-25 ranked teams competing over three days on the first golf course built on Georgia's Lake Oconee.  The Bob Cupp design, a par 72 set up to 7,005 yards for the tournament, played to a scoring average of 76.19 for 54 holes.

RENOVATED GREAT WATERS COURSE RETURNS BETTER THAN EVER

Share on Twitter Twitter | Share on Facebook Facebook | Submit to Digg digg it |  Add to delicious  delicious |  Submit to StumbleUpon StumbleUpon |  Share on LinkedIn LinkedIn | Submit to Reddit reddit
Greensboro, Ga. (March 4, 2010) - Under the direction of the architectural staff from Nicklaus Design, the first substantial renovation project on the award-winning Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation is complete. The result is a version that is better than ever and again ready for play this spring.   Great Waters, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course that opened in 1992, is a dramatic layout that offers some of the most breathtaking golf scenery in the southeast. Consistently ranked among the Top 100 courses in the nation since it opened in 1992, Great Waters  earned the distinction from Links Magazine as one of the "10 most significant and influential courses of the past two decades."   To ensure Great Waters remains just as significant during the next two decades, Reynolds Plantation implemented a restoration plan for the greens and bunkering that has restored them to the shapes and sizes of Nicklaus' original specifications.   Greenside bunkers have been slightly tweaked throughout the golf course, to incorporate new drainage and reinforce the faces. The modifications have not impacted the integrity of the design; rather, they enhance shot values.   The major alteration is the complete turf changeover on all 18 greens, from the original Penncross Bentgrass to Miniverde Bermudagrass, a unique variety that was not yet developed when Great Waters was built. The new product is a superior putting surface that will remain more consistent, year round.   "Great Waters' reputation as a world-class golf experience plays a significant role in the Reynolds Plantation golf community," said Mercer Reynolds, Chairman of Reynolds Plantation. "The course is credited for putting Reynolds Plantation on the map. It has a great history, and the renovation assures the golf course maintains its level of excellence in the future."

Reynolds Plantation members will get the first look at the revitalized Great Waters layout starting March 15, with guest play to resume April 1. Nicklaus is schedule to make a personal inspection of the finished product and serve as special guest for a dedication ceremony on April 6.

The second golf course built at Reynolds Plantation, Great Waters is the only Nicklaus course on Lake Oconee. With nine holes lining the lake shores, Great Waters quickly gained a reputation for its scenic beauty, as well.

While the architectural staff from Nicklaus Design was assigned to the job from the outset, much of the Great Waters renovation project was carried out by the Reynolds golf course maintenance crew. Each phase was coordinated to maintain the design and strategic objectives Nicklaus intended in 1992. Original plans and drawings were referenced throughout the project, particularly to locate the original edges of the greens in order to return them to the exact same size they were on the day it opened.   As for the greenside bunkers, most of the changes won't be visible to the golfer's eye, since they involve modernization of drainage and irrigation systems underground. To prevent erosion on the faces of the bunkers, the new ones have grass growing lower down the sides, making the slopes slightly less dramatic, but the obstacle no less hazardous.   "By having Jack Nicklaus' name on Great Waters, we are responsible for part of his legacy," said Bob Mauragas, vice-president of golf operations at Reynolds Plantation. "By completing a project like this, it is satisfying for all of us at Reynolds Plantation to know we are being good caretakers of that legacy."

The TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company's top PGA TOUR Professionals visited Reynolds Plantation this week to film commercials and take photographs for their 2010 advertising campaigns.

Pros such as Sean O'Hair, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Mike Weir, Retief Goosen, Kenny Perry and Paula Creamer, were filmed at Bob Cupp's Plantation Course and at Tom Fazio's National Course during the three-day shoot.

A few lucky Reynolds Plantation residents were even "ambushed" by one of Reynolds Plantation's newest members, Sean O'Hair, who was enjoying a short break from the filming. They played a hole with the three-time TOUR winner, as O'Hair showed off TaylorMade's new golf ball, called the Penta.

"Access to 117 distinctive holes of golf surrounded by incredible natural beauty makes Reynolds Plantation the ideal setting to shoot our commercials," says Robin English of TaylorMade-adidas Golf.  "Very few places in the world offer such variety of golf all in one location and we are thrilled to have such a stunning backdrop for our advertising."

"We have been honored to host TaylorMade-adidas at Reynolds Plantation to film its advertising on four different occasions," says Bob Mauragas, vice president of golf operations. "It is a pleasure to be associated with a brand like TaylorMade-adidas that seeks the highest quality, continuously strives for innovation and shares our passion for excellence."

While on-site for the filming, the pros stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation.

"The combination of world class golf and lodging just over an hour from Atlanta makes this a convenient location to assemble following THE TOUR Championship at East Lake," says English. "Although a shoot of this size requires a great deal of work, the pros and crew still find time to enjoy all that Reynolds Plantation has to offer."

The relationship between TaylorMade and Reynolds Plantation was solidified two years ago when TaylorMade opened its first Kingdom away from company headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.  The Kingdom is "where the pros go" to work on their game and to have clubs custom-fit and custom-built to their specifications.

One of golf's hottest young stars, the 26-year-old O'Hair has vacationed frequently at Reynolds Plantation, the golf and lake community where he and his family now are members.  O'Hair stayed at Reynolds Plantation while preparing for what has become the most successful spring of his career.  His victory Sunday at the Quail Hollow Championship vaulted O'Hair to No. 3 on the Tour money list and to No. 12 in the world rankings.

O'Hair has been among the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Professional staff to utilize The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation, where the pros sharpen their technique, test and fine-tune equipment, thanks to the on-site TaylorMade Tour Trailer.

"I am excited about my partnership with Reynolds Plantation," O'Hair said.  "I always look forward to going there.  It is a fantastic place for golfers and is really cool for families, too."

O'Hair and his family enjoy the various lifestyle amenities offered throughout the Lake Oconee community.  O'Hair and his wife, Jackie, are expecting their third child.

Reynolds Plantation has been named the "Best of the Best" Golf Community by Robb Report and the community with the "Best Golf" in America by the editors of GOLF Magazine.  Member residents enjoy five courses crafted by the most sought-after names in golf course design (with a sixth on the way to be designed by Pete Dye), as well as access to more than 80 miles of shoreline along Georgia's second-largest lake, the  Lake Club Wellness Center and world-class Tennis Center.  And it's all complemented by the AAA Five Diamond Award-winning Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation.

Greensboro, Ga.  (January 9, 2008) - The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation was created for tour pros, but is not their private realm.

Located on Lake Oconee at one of the world's renowned golf resort communities, the Kingdom is home to "The TaylorMade Tour Experience at Reynolds Plantation," an exclusive, two-day ultimate golf experience that allows regular golfers inside the private world of the touring professional.

A comprehensive game-enhancement experience unlike any in the world, the "Tour Experience" includes a round of golf, personalized instruction and candid interaction with a tour professional from the elite staff of TaylorMade-adidas.  Exclusive to the Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation, the "Tour Experience" is an extension of the services provided to tour pros who regularly visit the compound for personal testing sessions and equipment fittings, as well as to use the tour-quality setting to hone their game.

The Tour Experience package price (three nights, two days) is $9000 per person, plus taxes and gratuities.  Each Tour Experience is limited to six participants and the tour professional and will be offered on 16 separate dates in 2008.  Among TaylorMade's tour professional staff who plan to be on-site at Reynolds Plantation this year are the likes of Joe Ogilvie, Kenny Perry, Scott Verplank and Hale Irwin.

"The opening of The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation further validates us as a premier golf destination," said Bob Mauragas, Reynolds Plantation's vice president of golf operations.  "Now golfers can visit and not only enjoy our great collection of golf courses, but at the Kingdom they can engage in an incomparable tour experience that can change their games dramatically for the better."

The "Tour Experience" begins with a high-tech fitting for a complete set of TaylorMade clubs custom-made for each participant.  Custom-fitting at the Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation is performed with the MATT System (Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade), a sophisticated club-fitting tool that combines nine high-speed cameras and a computer to gather vital swing information and statistics through the use of a launch monitor, multiple high-speed video cameras and a computer.  That evening participants will enjoy dinner with the TaylorMade tour professional.

The next morning participants enjoy a chef-prepared breakfast and receive instruction at the Reynolds Golf Academy, led by Charlie King, a GOLF Magazine Top 100 instructor.  Its resources include an unparalleled short-game practice facility that affords players to practice almost every greenside shot imaginable and an 18,000 square foot putting green.  Likewise the spacious driving range, which is shared by the Kingdom and the Academy, features a fairway bunker and uphill, downhill and sidehill lies.  In the afternoon, participants play a round of golf with clubs that have been built on-site overnight, accompanied by King and another PGA professional.

Unveiled last fall, the Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation is the next generation of TaylorMade's first state-of-the-art club-testing and club-fitting facility, built in 1997 at its headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.  Also named "The Kingdom," it was an innovative concept made available only to tour professionals for the purpose of testing prototype TaylorMade equipment.

The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation occupies a beautifully renovated building located at the rear of the Oconee Course's main practice range, adjacent to an exceptional short-game practice facility that includes a full-scale par-3 target course.  The architecture features high ceilings, beautifully tiled floors and dark wood appointments, but with Southern styling that's consistent with the region and luxury lake-side properties nearby.

"There's just no better way to get this type of golf experience, other than actually being a touring professional," Mauragas said.  "We're excited to be the only place in the world that offers the complete combination of quality instruction and interaction with an elite TaylorMade tour professional, all in an unbelievable location."

The Kingdom also is available to TaylorMade-adidas Golf staff club professionals and their guests, and select corporate groups.

Reynolds Plantation was chosen by TaylorMade-adidas Golf (TMaG) as a "Kingdom" location for a variety of reasons, including:

  • To be more easily accessible to TMaG tour staff professionals and club staff professionals living east of the Mississippi River.
  • Reynolds Plantation's well-deserved reputation as a premier golf location and residential community dedicated to excellence and its access to a major international airport in Atlanta.
  • World-Class accommodations, which guests at the Kingdom will find at the AAA Five-Diamond Award-winning Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation.
  • Year-round golf at Reynolds Plantation's ultimate collection of championship-caliber golf courses: the Oconee (designed by Rees Jones), National (Tom Fazio) and Great Waters (Jack Nicklaus), as well as Plantation and Reynolds Landing (both by Bob Cupp).

"We can't imagine a better, more authentic golf location for it than Reynolds Plantation," said Robin English, TMaG's director of Kingdom operations.
